This building was the winner of a biennial competition which Stirling Civic Trust held in 2009. The competition in 2009 attracted a strong entry, and was was for the Best New Building built in the previous four years in the Stirling County Area.
Not only is the design of the building in our view a very satisfying one. the considerable potential of some waste land has been cleverly realised to create something which is a real asset both to Stirling, and more generally to Scottish Cricket.
Summary
This project formed part of the Stirling Schools PPP (Public Private Project). It is located adjacent to the Forth and close to the Forthbank stadium and the industrial estate. It replaces the former SCCC clubhouse and single wicket pitch with a new pavilion and two first class pitches one with 10 and one with 6 wickets. There is a large clubroom and changing, etc. facilities for 4 teams, umpires, females and the disabled. The site is spectacular with open views over the links of Forth to the Wallace monument and Dumyat. The ground was previously used for landfill, which had to be capped as part of the project. Local materials have been used and high levels of insulation provided at all points. The spaces are naturally lit and ventilated.

As a regular user of New Williamfield I can honestly say its one of the best facilities I have ever used in Scotland. The views from the ground are spectacular but the modern pavilion gives the ground great character. The spacious lounge and bar area provides a perfect area to relax after playing or coaching and the changing and shower facilities are better than most in the country. The pitches are easily accessible from all changing rooms and there is a designated disabled and women’s changing area. The pavilion itself has a great feel of modernisation and of the 21st Century with the added extra that both pitches can be viewed at the same time whilst relaxing in the lounge.

The views from the new pavilion, through the large glass windows, are outstanding. The Ochils in the background, the Wallace Monument and the River all contribute to the perfect setting for the game of cricket. The Pavilion itself is spacious with a bar and lounge area together with a committee room and four main changing rooms with separate ladies and umpires changing facilities. The many visiting teams and other users of the facilities have all made very positive comments about the new facilities which are now home to the Scottish Women’s Cricket team as well as Stirling County Cricket Club and its junior section too.
Due to the location of the club and it’s facilities, Cricket Scotland has taken a great interest in hosting youth games with a view to more senior representative games in the future. The proximity of the nearby hockey facilities has encouraged the hockey club to utilise the pavilion for their use as well as the occasional international hockey teams who visit from time to time.
