Groups of local residents have, entirely through their own initiative, transformed the basic communal landscaping around their homes into gems of horticultural excellence, and maintain them to the highest standard. The planting at Water Yett surrounds areas of car parking serving the health centre and Linlithgow Loch, and creates a colourful and welcoming atmosphere which gives an excellent impression of the town to visitors. At the West Port flats, residents have created beautiful settings for their homes, more secluded, but none the less impressive. Both locations include sculptural objects, and stones recycled from agricultural field clearance have been used for edgings. Help has been given by the Historic Scotland Ranger Service, the Council, Burgh Beautiful and other individuals, both in funding, in time and in kind.
