The first ever Scottish Civic Trust My Place Awards
Civic Champion award has been presented to Ron Smith of Linlithgow
Civic Society.
The judging panel's citation reads:
"His beautifully hand drawn maps of Scotland's
towns most impressed these judges. There is an emphasis in
his work on the significance of Scotland's towns, their sensitive
preservation and development and bringing this
understanding to a wider audience."

The judges continue:
"In Linlithgow he gets down and dirty, giving
opportunities to local people to translate the much used term
"civic pride" into activity that is very inclusive, from litter
picking to sponsored hanging baskets.
At the same time he is constantly promoting Linlithgow's
interests in wider arenas.
So there is strong leadership here from someone who
knows how to get on with people on local, regional and national
level. The first ever Scottish Civic Trust Civic Champion
is Ron Smith."
